Derek Pigrum

Derek William Pigrum is an artist researcher (www.derekpigrum.com). He was born in Bradford-on-Avon in 1946, and grew up in north London and Surrey. In the early 1970s he moved to Stockholm In the late 1970s the artist married the Austrian actress Hannelore Schindler and moved to Vienna where he teaches at the Vienna International School. He first earned his Bachelor of Art, then pursued his Master and PhD in Art and Education at the University of Bath, where he has been a Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of Education for ten years and has published numerous papers on creativity and presented at international conferences of which the most recent was the conference ‘Drawing Out’ at RMIT. He is a member of the “Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain” (PESGB) and has published a monograph with Continuum entitled Teaching Creativity / Multi-Mode Transitional Practices (2009).
